The newly-inaugurated Ogun State Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Apostle David Otaru, says buying of votes by politicians portends a great danger to the nation’s nascent democracy, given the alleged scenario which played out during the Ekiti governorship election which held last Saturday.
He spoke on Thursday on the sidelines of his inauguration and other executive council members of the state chapter.
Otaru appealed to Nigerian political leaders to stop buying the ‘conscience’ of Nigerians.
While he urged politicians to stop bitter rivalry among themselves, the cleric appealed to Nigerians to vote for their conscience during the 2019 general elections.
He said, “Vote-buying portends great danger to our national democracy. When people buy votes, they sell their conscience and it isn’t good for our nation.
“I want to advise the leadership of this country, particularly the political leaders. Vote-buying is on both sides, those who offer it and those who receive it are all culpable.
“Nigerians should vote according to their conscience in the coming elections. The politicians also should play politics without bitterness.
