The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State has debunked the rumour making the rounds that the commission collects an undisclosed fee from individuals for the ongoing Permanent Voters Card (PVC) exercise.
A press statement signed by the commission’s Administrative Secretary in Lafiya, Opaleke Otolorin, condemned the allegations circulating on social media that forms were being issued after payment of some token before registration.
The statement further declared that the incidents were promptly reported to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Karu Local Government Area of the state for thorough investigation.
“Our findings so far reveal that one INEC staff in Karu, whose name was mentioned in the report in the social media as a suspect, was handed over to DSS for investigation,” the statement said.
The statement advised the general public to refrain from offering any fee, gratification or inducement to any staff of the commission.
