The Gombe State council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has organized a one-day workshop for journalists in the state on pre-2019 general elections.
The state chairman of the NUJ, Saidu Bappah Malala, said the workshop was to prepare the minds of journalists working in Gombe for the rudiments of political coverage ahead of the 2019 elections.
He said the training was expected to expose the participants on the ethics of political reporting in preparation for the forthcoming general elections.
Declaring the workshop open, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Umar Suleiman, said journalists as critical stakeholders have a key role to play in ensuring that the Independent National Electoral Commission conducts peaceful, free, fair and credible elections.
