Recruitment of Media Monitoring Staff
The Centre for Media and Society invites applications from interested persons to the following positions in our organisation:
A: Media Monitors
B: Media Monitoring Supervisor
C: Writer /Analyst
BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION
The Centre for Media and Society implements Support to Media of the European Union Support to Democratic Governance (EU-SDGN) project, which objective is that the media provide fair, accurate and ethical coverage of the electoral process.
The action contributes to strengthening democratic governance in Nigeria through increased engagements and improved capacity of a wide range of media stakeholders in Nigeria, including media professionals, the broadcast media regulator and other groups.
Media Monitoring Programme:
The Media Monitoring Programme focuses on monitoring of contents of selected broadcast media (radio and television stations) across the country.
It is expected that data will be generated by media monitors through broadcast media (radio and television) monitoring in a systematic and scientific manner, analysed and used to draw conclusions regarding media coverage during the electoral process (pre-elections, before, during and after the 2023 and 2027 elections.
The monitoring activities will be domiciled in our media monitoring centre in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria.

Duties and responsibilities
- Monitoring, documenting and analysing election and related electoral contents of selected broadcast media (television and radio) stations
- Writing reports on monitored content of media programme
Competencies:
- Knowledge of the broadcast media landscape in Nigeria
- Familiarity with elections and democratic governance issues in Nigeria
- Skill in media content monitoring
- Skill in data gathering and analysis
- Proficiency in at least one widely spoken indigenous Nigeria language
- Proven capacity in the use of social/new media and online resources
- Report writing and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
Educational Qualification:
A minimum of first degree or HND in Mass Communication or related field
Work Experience
Work experienced required: Two (2) years

Duties and responsibilities
- Supervising the development of broadcast media monitoring work-plan
- Supervising media content monitoring activities focused on broadcast media (television and radio)
- Writing reports on media monitoring processes
- Working with writer/ analyst on processing of data generated from monitoring activities.
- Ensuring compliance of media monitoring team to standards.
- Participating in review of media monitoring reports
Competencies:
- Knowledge of the broadcast media landscape in Nigeria
- Familiarity with elections and democratic governance issues in Nigeria
- Skill in media content monitoring
- Skill in data gathering and analysis
- Proficiency in at least one widely spoken indigenous Nigeria language
- Proven capacity in the use of social/new media and online resources
- Report writing and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
Qualification:
A minimum of first degree or HND in Mass Communication or related fields.
A post graduate degree in Mass Communication or related field will be an added advantage.
- C. Job Description: Writer/Analyst
Duties and responsibilities
- Working with the media monitoring team to develop broadcast media monitoring work-plan/schedules
- Harvesting information from the media monitoring data base for analysis
- Writing of media monitoring reports from the analyses based on approved timelines
- Analysing information harvested from the media monitoring data base using appropriate tools
- Meeting with the monitoring team on regular basis to address concerns/observations
- Writing reports on analyses of data.

- Knowledge of the broadcast media landscape in Nigeria
- Familiarity with elections and democratic governance issues in Nigeria
- Skill in media content monitoring
- Skill in data gathering and analysis
- Proficiency in at least one widely spoken indigenous Nigeria language
- Competence in any of the three major languages in Nigeria
- Proven capacity in the use of social/new media and online resources
- Report writing and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience data gathering, analysis and reporting
Qualification:
A minimum of first degree in Mass Communication or related field.
A higher degree will be an added asset.
Work Experience required: Four (4) years
Timeline of Broadcast Media Monitoring Assignment
The broadcast media monitoring programme will be for a period of 40 months (Staggered to focus on various national and off-season electoral periods.)
Languages: (For all the 3 positions)
- Fluency in both spoken and written English
- Proficiency in at least one widely spoken indigenous Nigerian language.
