The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Plateau State council, has condemned the attack on its members by some angry youths of Dwei community after the Sunday’s killings of11 people in Jos South.
The youths had stoned journalists who were trying to get information on the incident, saying despite their reports of attacks in the state, the government had not taken action to halt killings.
But a statement yesterday by the state chairman of the NUJ, and Secretary, Paul Jatau, partly read: “While we share in the grief of those injured and bereaved families, as well as the pain the killers who continually evolve and manifest in ways more than one, thereby subjecting innocent people to physical pain and psychological trauma, without provocation, we wish to state unequivocally that the attack on journalists as a way of venting anger is uncalled for.
“We advise against attacking journalists in retaliation for any attack that occur. We call on government to strengthen its security apparatus to end the killings which has now become a daily occurrence.”
